Spark Plug Blow out.
Ford had problems with spark plugs do not hold the 4.6, 5.4 and 6.8 engines for some time now. Aluminum heads are about five threads holding the plug in place. If you do not throw out the candles, when it blows out it might break the ignition coil which is located above each plug. Ford does not recommend the repair issues, they would prefer the entire cylinder head be replaced with the head of Ford. Beware of buying rebuilt head of blowouts so often, chances are reconstructed head can be repaired insert that can not keep. Machine shops usually used Heli-coils for repair of any damaged or missing, however, Heli-Coils are not the best fix in this case.
Heli-Coil is a thin coil that can fail due to stress-cylinder compression and the fact that only a few, nor used to secure the spark plug. Ford has redesigned the cylinder head 5.4 engine used in Ford trucks, Expedition, Mustang, etc. Unfortunately, the new design is a different problem. When removing spark plugs in these newer Ford 5.4 engine spark plug can break leaving the metal sleeve (shield electrode) in the spark plug hole. threaded part out, but the remaining part is behind us and can be a nightmare to remove.
Ford has made a removal tool kit, Rotunda 303-1203 to remove the spark plug sleeve when it does break. Rotunda 303-1203 is a specialty tool that is in high demand by many unsuspecting repair shops that perform maintenance on the customer's vehicle. Ford TSB describes how to try to prevent the break, although the procedure yields less than desirable results.
